When talking about complex numbers, the term “imaginary” is somewhat of a misnomer. The original intent in calling numbers “imaginary” was derogatory as if to imply that the numbers had no worth in the real world. On the contrary, complex numbers are now understood to be useful for many practical problems involving real-world things.
